This growth is not just happening to us. We are driving it intentionally and positioning the Institute for an even greater future.
Major Campus Improvements
The whirlwind of projects underway around campus will add to the many enhancements introduced last year. The following are just a few examples of 2023 developments.
Track and Field and Cross-Country Teams Locker Room
Opened January 2023
Adjacent to McCamish Pavilion, the Coliseum Annex was renovated to provide a new home for the track and field and cross-country teams. New offices for coaches, upgraded men's and women's locker rooms, and an athletic training/hydrotherapy room are among the enhanced features of the state-of-the-art functional and support space. Updated graphics and branding throughout the building highlight the history of both teams.
Reck Garage
Opened March 2023
Constructed to house and display the Institute’s mechanical mascot, the nearly all-glass structure with showroom-quality lighting, a cutting-edge security system, and rooftop solar array fosters community spirit in the heart of campus. Located next to the John Lewis Student Center, it houses a tool bench, vehicle turntable, and lift for students to maintain the 1930 Ford Model A Sport Coupe. An outdoor plaza allows the Reck Club to host community-building events and provide student gathering and study space. The Reck Garage was made possible by a generous gift from the Wallis family in memory of W. Barry Wallis, who graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1968.
Community Garden
Opened April 2023
The Community Garden, located on the west side of campus, was expanded by adding 20 individual raised garden planters, and redesigned for improved accessible pathways and garden plots. The installation of cooking instruction tables and facilities allows for chef demonstrations. More fruit trees were planted in the orchard area, and a larger composting area was created along with an updated shed, fencing, and irrigation system.
Updated Branding
Completed Fall 2023
The Coda Building, the North Avenue Apartments, the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center Parking Deck, the O’Keefe Gymnasium, and the Interlock district all received updated branding.
Divine Nine Plaza
Opened October 2023
The Divine Nine are the nine historically Black fraternities and sororities that comprise the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Located adjacent to the John Lewis Student Center parking deck, the plaza, with its nine distinct circular gathering spaces with seating and landscaping, includes an 820-square-foot amphitheater with terraced seating.
Veterans Resource Center Walkway
Opened November 2023
This tribute project honors all Georgia Tech alumni, students, and staff who have served in the U.S. armed forces. The walkway features granite inlays and mounted wall plaques recognizing the six military branches. Each inlay includes a portion of Morse code representing the individual branch’s motto. Adjacent elevated signage displays the core values of military service: honor, courage, commitment, respect, duty, valor, service, and integrity. An upper plaza overlook includes an American flag, with Griffin Track, McCamish Pavilion, and the city skyline in the distance.
